I recently found out about an online art company, Globalgallery.com, when they contacted me to do a Designer Spotlight for their website. I travel all over the country to find art, and here it is, right in my own backyard in Austin, TX!
Thanks goodness I found out about them, though, they really helped me out in procuring artwork for an HGTV show I’ve been doing some design work for.
Before TLC and HGTV, I didn’t know this, but most ‘Art’ can’t be shown on TV (usually decided by the network) without getting a signed license agreement from the artist. They end up having the home owner take every picture off the wall, or blurring out the image so you can’t see it on screen.
Tracking down the artist for every piece of art in a home is challenging, even impossible if you’ve purchased wall décor such as a print or giclee from a retail store.
Trying to find usable art for this television show was a major challenge and the home really needed the artwork. Global Gallery came through with some awesome, overscale artwork, complete with usage rights- huge win for me!
I’m not allowed to show any pictures from the home until the show airs this fall, but here is a sneak peek of Global Gallery’s piece above the mantle. Believe me, it looks fabulous in the large, 2 story family room!
I’ll be sure to let you know when the show airs. In the meantime, head on over to Global Gallery’s Blog to see my favorite items from their collection and read my thoughts on starting an art collection and how to find inspiration for your home.
