2019: Year in Review
December 27, 2019 in Uncategorized | no comments

This is our last blog post of 2019! This year has been full of exciting changes and projects. Here is a recap of all of the exciting happenings the Heather Scott Home & Design team experienced in 2019.

Ownership Team Expansion

This year Heather and Scott announced that after 13 years of running Heather Scott Home & Design, our ownership team would be expanding! Raquel and Emily joined founders Heather and Scott Harkovich as ownership partners with the goal to continue delivering classic, chic and serene spaces while making the design process worry-free for our clients. With more than a decade of design experience and design awards to her name, Raquel leads the team as the Principal Designer with the skills to conceptualize fully realized spaces. Emily, the backbone of the team, oversees the logistics as Chief Operations Officer. Her focus is handling clients with the greatest of care and attention to detail. Together, they make a great team!

As Featured In

Beyond a new ownership team, this year we also have been featured and published in different local and national publications! In no particular order, here are some of the places we were featured in 2019.

Awards & Recognition

We were pleased to add a few more ASID awards to our name. At the 2019 Legacy of Design Awards in Dallas, TX we received 2nd Place for our Ranch Home Remodel and 2nd Place for the design of Wendy Wells Jewelry Store. The Legacy of Design Awards is an annual event that provides awards for the best interior design concepts in the state of Texas.

Best Interior Design in the Retail: Wendy Wells Jewelry Store (Second Place Winner)

When a local jewelry designer decided to take the leap of faith to grow her business and open her first retail storefront, she contacted our team to transform her rented bungalow into a jewel of a retail space. As a first-time shop owner she wanted to establish a brand on a conservative budget, so we selected cost conscious options and upcycled pieces to give her shop an inviting, memorable, and eclectic feel.

Best Interior Design for a Kitchen (>$50,000): Ranch Home Remodel (Second Place Winner)

A dated 1980s ranch home is remodeled and modernized with an open concept, clean lines and timeless interior finishes. The remodel and design for this project required extensive and detailed planning to transform the dark, cramped layout of this home. Despite structural issues and setbacks, this Texas ranch home’s dated kitchen was transformed into an eye-catching example of pragmatic functionality.

31st Annual Arts Award Finalist

This year we were nominated and chosen to be a finalist for the 31st Annual ARTS Awards. The ARTS Awards, presented each January during the Dallas Total Home & Gift Market, is the premier awards program in the U.S. honoring top manufacturers, retailers, designers, and sales representatives in the home industry. We are thrilled to be among such talented company!

What are the ARTS awards, you ask? To sum it up quickly, it is a really great achievement in our business. To quote the President and CEO of the Dallas Market, finalists represent the “utmost creativity, originality and craftsmanship” in the industry. Our store was nominated and chosen as one of four finalist in the “Best Furniture Store-Single Store” category. Independent judges will select the category winner.

If you have been a follower of our blog, you will recall we have been a finalist and winner of this prestigious award in the past. We hope to have the same results this year! The awards gala will be held January 10th in Dallas.

Project Reveals

In 2019, we also had the opportunity to work on different design projects in the Austin area and beyond. We selected a few key projects that stood out to us in the year. Each project featured stood out in their own unique, defining way. Here’s a look back at 2019’s key projects.

Villa Blanca

Villa Blanca, as the homeowners so appropriately called their dream home, is a fitting name for this project in which a dark and dated home was transformed into a bright and airy space fit for entertaining. Architectural elements, updated furnishings, and stylish colors were brought in to create a home with a clean, yet warm vibe, reminiscent of the West Coast sensibility the young homeowner’s wanted for their Texas home.

This home will be featured in the 2020 Tribeza Interiors Tour. Be sure to mark your calendar for Sunday, January 26th to tour this home!

Lock & Leave Waterfront Retreat

When our clients decided to sell the family home they had lived in for nearly 25 years near downtown Austin and move to a 3,008 square foot laidback Lakeway lock and leave home, our design team was brought in to transform their compact space into a cozy and calm respite for the family to settle into. The waterfront home, with an efficient floor plan, was the perfect retirement option for our clients who were looking to downsize.

Twist on Traditional

Tucked away in an exclusive Austin neighborhood, this Barton Creek family room puts a fresh twist on tradition with a happy color scheme and playful prints. Our well-traveled clients wanted their new home, which is rooted in tradition, to feel like a collection of their travels. Described as our client’s favorite place, a colorful art piece depicting the iconic Italian coastline of Positano served as a main source of inspiration for the interiors.

With this bubbly color story in mind, our design goal was to outfit the interiors of the home with a clean, classic, and updated aesthetic. Timeless textiles on clean-line furnishings make the interiors of the space feel inviting, yet sophisticated. Most notably, the custom wall-to-wall drapery panels in a refreshing citrus-patterned fabric envelopes the open space with the same inviting intrigue of the jewel of the Amalfi Coast.

As eventful as 2019 was, we are so excited to see what 2020 has in store for our team! We already have some exciting events and features in the works that we cannot wait to share with you. We hope you continue to enjoy your holidays. We are closed for the remainder of December and will reopen at 11 am on Thursday, January 2nd. Happy New Year!
