On this week’s blog, we asked our newest team member Kori to share her perspective on a topic near and dear to her. She has been with our team almost a full year and here are the most important take-aways from her time with our team.
Since I joined the Heather Scott Home & Design team in October I’ve had the pleasure of going out to more than a dozen installs. From each of these projects, there is one theme that stands out in my mind: the splurge-worthy pieces. These are the pieces that bring the room to life, meaning these pieces give the room color, texture, and personality. On today’s blog I have listed the items that I find to be the most splurge-worthy.

1. Designer Fabrics
Anyone can search the web or shop a large box store to pick out plain draperies and solid pillows. When you invest just a little more into specialty fabrics for your room in your specified color palette, the results are amazing.

It is hard to compete or compare to the unlimited resources available to the design trade. I’m a shopper by nature, therefore I can recognize most of the inventory from the common retailers. I’ve never seen anything as beautiful as the designer fabrics I’ve seen since joining this team. When you can, splurge on fabrics! They make such a big impact!

2. Jewel-Like Lighting
We have all heard and read Heather say it and the phrase deserves repeating. Lighting is the jewelry of the room. When considering your budget, always account for luxe lighting. The impact of a beautiful chandelier or a really cool pendant can carry a lot of style in a room. Most times beautifully crafted, artisan lighting is not something you can purchase from a big box store. I’ve shopped them my whole life, they don’t hold a candle (pun intended) to a high-end light fixture.

The scale of these lights alone, aside from the amazing finishes, are spectacular. I’ve never seen lamps as big or as unique and pretty as the ones I’ve seen from our vendors. They are amazing and definitely a splurge worthy item.

3. Artisan Rugs
Before joining this team and entering the design world, I never wanted to spend a ton of money on rugs. My reasons included the fact that you are going to walk on them and they have the most potential for destruction in your house. However, at one of our latest installs we brought in beautifully crafted rugs and my opinion instantly changed. You can definitely see and feel the quality difference between these and their lower price-point counterparts.

You can tell in the weight and thickness of them. They don’t wrinkle or curl up as they are woven with high quality wool. Additionally, the blending of the colors and fibers is gorgeously intricate. If you can go for a hand-crafted, artisan rug, I definitely encourage you to do so. You will not regret it.
4. Accessories and Artwork
Last but not least, I can’t forget the accessories and the art work. Breathtaking! The quality of the craftsmanship blended with fine materials produces truly extraordinary works of art. From lifelike faux greenery to crystalline hoops, these are the pieces that make a room special and elevate the artistry.

We hope this has inspired you to treat yourself to a splurge-worthy item for your home. Let us know how we can help you with your next purchase!
