Giving Back: Team Volunteer Day at Wooten Elementary School
November 23, 2018 in Uncategorized | no comments

We hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving! This time of year always inspires us to focus on gratitude and all of the aspects of life that make us most thankful. Whether it be our loved ones, our health, or our homes, there is always something to be grateful and thankful for. Just before the holiday season officially kicked off, our team had the opportunity to give back and volunteer at Wooten Elementary School in North Austin. As a day of service, we helped the school’s bubbly librarian paint murals in the library with inspiring quotes and images of her students’ favorite fictional characters. It was such a fun project to be a part of, especially as were helping such a kind, grateful, and humble team at Wooten Elementary.

One of the main murals we painted was of popular book characters sitting on top of stacks of books. We projected the images of the characters from Olivia, Pete the Cat, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Cat in the Hat, and Clifford the Big Red Dog to trace on the walls.

We colored in our traced images with bright colors that pop! They add a fun detail to the top of the bookshelves.

Wooten’s librarian also wanted our team to help paint the walls of her “Poetry Corner.” She found an inspiration image online that she had in mind for the space. She wanted a scrolly font and plenty of imperfect stars surrounding the word.

She also wanted our team’s help with selecting a quote for her poetry section. Here’s what we decided on:

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”

― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

We loved this message! We hope the students do too.

The completed mural adds such a fun element to the library!

Volunteering at Wooten Elementary was such a fun project for our team! We are thankful to the staff at the school that allowed our team to participate and paint their library.  We hope you have a great holiday weekend spent with loved ones focusing on gratitude. We are grateful that you continue to allow us to share our latest happenings and love of design with you. Thank you for your support!

As a reminder we are closed for the holiday and will reopen on Monday, November 26th!
