4 Key Elements to a Timeless Kitchen
March 10, 2017 in As Featured On, Inspiration, Trends | 4 comments

If you are going to invest money in a kitchen remodel or have the luxury to design your kitchen from scratch, it is important to understand what elements are most important in terms of timeless design.

In our latest segment on NBC’s KXAN ‘Studio 512’, Heather shares, with host Amanda Tatom,  a list of her top 4 elements that will make your kitchen classic, serene, and chic.

You can read Heather’s kitchen essentials below or watch the segment here.

1.Cabinets

Kitchen cabinets are one of the most essential elements for practicality and aesthetics. When selecting a style, shaker front cabinets are a classic option. They create a clean and streamlined look that will marry well with nearly any architectural style. Also, pay attention to the color of your cabinets. Go for classic white versus wood stained cabinetry. Wood stains vary with the times and can quickly date your home. We recommend Benjamin Moore White Dove or Sherwin Williams Alabaster paint.

2. Countertops

There is nothing more synonymous with a timeless kitchen than a marble countertop. It is worth the investment! Marble is elegant, sophisticated, and no other product can mimic it exactly. Sourced from Italy, Calacatta and Carrara are timeless choices which have been used in Europe for millenniums. Calacatta is whiter with warmer but more dramatic veining, while Carrara tends to have more grey, but softer movement. Either option is a tasteful kitchen staple.

3.Backsplash

A backsplash is an important design detail that can set the tone for the overall style. For classic design, be aware of the material and shape you select. White subway tile is an effortless option since it goes with everything. If you want variety, marble tile or hexagonal shapes are another sophisticated selection. For longevity, try to avoid anything too trendy like glass tile or Moroccan motifs, unless it fits your home’s architecture.

4.Lighting

Last but not least, lighting is where you can provide a real style statement to your kitchen. For a timeless look, the lantern is a stylish option. Lanterns can be found in a variety of finishes, sizes, and price points. A common mistake is choosing the wrong size and placement.  This is easy to overcome by simply searching Google or Pinterest for the ideal size and placement of lighting for the kitchen.

By using these four key essentials with any kitchen (remodel or new build) you will be sure to get the most out of your investment and space for a very long time. We hope you have enjoyed these tips and be sure to read more on this topic in our recent article with Homepolish.com.
