BEFORE & AFTER: PREPPY LIVING ROOM
January 27, 2017 in Before & After, Installs | 2 comments

We recently completed a ‘formal’ living room for a southern transplant who wanted something that reminded her of home.  Something a bit preppy, a bit peppy and very casual. We agreed on a classic preppy color scheme of blue and green with other accents brought in through colorful art and accessories.

BEFORE:

The formal living room was the first thing you saw when walking in the front door.  Our homeowners were using it as their main family room but said the existing furniture did not allow for adult conversation.  She also felt the paint color was drab and the curtains/rod that came with the house just were not her style.

AFTER:

The walls were painted Benjamin Moore Ice Cap and then the new design scheme was installed!

The new sofa was covered in a family friendly navy and we selected a soft edge ottoman and had it upholstered in easy to clean cream leather.  We used the homeowner’s nightstand from a different room and an antique end table that had sentimental value.

Peppy pillows and drapes incorporate bold shades of green and blue and make this room feel like a fun place to spend time.

And we were tickled to see Emily had dressed in colors coordinating to the room scheme.

The small-scale side chairs fit the room and the subtle pattern added an additional layer of kid-friendliness.

The homeowners also plan on reupholstering the pair of chairs in the ‘before photo’ to add even more seating to the room as they look forward to entertaining in their new home!

Sometimes new beginnings can give you the chance to fondly remember old things.  Your tastes are an amalgamation of who you are based on your life experiences.  Learn to embrace that uniqueness and incorporate that special style in your home!
