First off, a “casegood” is a furniture product made of a hard material, such as wood or metal. We generally talk of ‘upholstery’ (furniture of fabric) or ‘casegoods’ (furniture of hard surface materials) and manufacturers typically specialize in one or the other, or produce these in different factories.

One concept sweeping the interior design industry is the “upholstered casegood”. This type of product could be something like a wood chest with drawers which are covered in material and often nailheads, to cover the seams. I just ordered an upholstered chest to use as a nightstand in a downtown loft project- I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Here is an upholstered chest- shown in different fabrics and different painted wood trims. You can completely tailor this piece to match the style of your home!
We saw quite a few upholstered casegood pieces at the Vanguard Furniture showroom and Amanda was thoughtful enough to pull together some examples of these products, as well as others, to show you how creative one can be with upholstered wood products!
Here are some the examples Amanda found and her thoughts on the topic:
We have all seen upholstered headboards and beds, but now the industry is taking it a step further! They are adding texture in every way possible. With the ability to add fabrics to our dressers, desks, and tables, etc., we are able to add a different texture and softness to every space.
Vanguard Furniture, a favorite upholstery line of Heather Scott Home & Design, has become very innovative with upholstered case goods and taken it to the next level. They have decided to let you customize your own upholstered piece! You can choose the nail head design you would like, the finish, and the nail head color. Here are some examples of what they offer.
After choosing the pattern, fabric, and nail head trim, you get your own customized piece of furniture! Below are a few examples of the finished product.
