This has become a very familiar story to me here in Austin. It goes like this:
“I bought this house about 7 years ago and it is just so ‘gold’…. gold wall paint, carpet, tile. I just want something that is bright, fresh and not so dark.”
So it goes with this client who desperately wanted new carpet, wall paint and furniture.

Isn’t it lovely? We did a soft neutral wall paint, that reads maybe gray, maybe dark white, maybe taupe, all depending on the light. This gives her more flexibility in the long run (i.e. not the ‘I painted my house when gray was in’ time frame). She had a wonderful wool look carpet installed so the new ‘envelope’ was very classy and fresh.

The family room is open to the casual eating area (which you can see in the back left of the 2 photos above). This area also needed an update. The client wanted to seat more people, so we did fit a slightly larger table, and a bench is on its way to go in front of the dining table.

What a difference a new light fixture (versus the ‘builder grade’ fixture) and custom window treatments make! We installed some fabulous woven wood blinds to hide the neighbor’s home, but still let in light. We also had custom drapes made to a larger width so the scale matched the size of the wall and window.
We had custom blue lumbar pillows made for the head chairs to bring the blue from the family room into the kitchen.
Looking back into the family room, the home owner also had an issue with the TV niche, so we had a custom piece designed to offer hidden storage and fit the dimensions of the existing space.

You can also see the hallway to the front door in this area, so we updated that with more functional storage and bright, blue glass lamps.

What a fresh space! I love the juxtaposition of the white and beige fabrics with the black wood and the accents of blue.
