Finally the HGTV Property Brothers episodes I did the design work on this past summer have started to air! I worked with the team on 2 episodes during the summer and this consumed my time for a good 8 weeks. And, by consumed, I mean 7am to 10pm, 7 days a week, if not more!

It was a lot of fun, a great learning experience and an incredibly tight time frame. That said, let me show you what we started with and where we ended. The biggest element to overcome was actually the hall bath as well as a variety of floor materials in the open plan entry, family, dining and kitchen area. Otherwise, it was minor cosmetic work and staging.
Not having a ‘client’ (just ‘the Brothers’ and the TV production team) I was able to be much more creative with colors and patterns. Traditionally, I would do a lot of white with minimal color, but you need to have much more pattern and color for the elements to show up on TV. I was very excited that my bright pink and green color scheme was approved!
Before: Family Room
After: Family Room- fresh paint, new flooring, re-arranging the layout and bright, fun colors.

Before: Entry
After: Entry
Before: Dining Room
After: Dining Room
Before: Kitchen- hard to see laminate counters and 4×4 white ceramic tile backsplash. Note: the tile in this room is different from that in the family/dining area.
After: Kitchen- Note: new countertops, new glass backsplash and new flooring
Before: Hall Bath
After: Hall Bath- this was basically ripped out entirely, with new flooring, tile, tub, wall paneling and paint. The toilet, sink, light fixture and mirror were reused to save budget.
I must say it was a very dramatic ‘before and after’ and I was very pleased when I found out that the homeowners sold their house shortly after listing it. Perfect proof that investing in remodeling and professionally decorating your home pays a return.
My other episode, Christi & Peter, airs in a week and a half.

What a fantastic makeover! I missed the episode this week, but will be sure to catch the next one… and hopefully a repeat of this one. Congrats… your hard work paid off.
Love the chevron curtains!
It looks fabulous, Heather! And I totally want the pink art from the living room. Please tell me I can get something similar? Pretty please? 🙂
I hope your anniversary is coming up soon- it is like your Jane Booth- a Mallory Page. You have great taste in art 🙂
I saw this episode and remember thinking that I love the way the house was decorated. Great job!
I watched this episode and absolutely adored your designs. The colors were amazing – especially loved the rug and the shower curtain fabric is adorable! Exciting to see who did the decorating. Thrilled to find and follow your blog !
I love this pink medallion rug! Please tell me where you got it!
We ordered it through our store, Heather Scott Home & Design. If you are interested, email us the size you are looking for and we can give you a price quote. Info@heatherscotthome.com
Where might I find the four-piece rose art in the living room? I’m in love!
Thanks Carrie- I actually painted them myself. I bought for canvases at Michaels and took a picture from a magazine of some flowers and cut it into 4 pieces to make the four paintings. You should try it!
Oh, nice! Thanks so much for he suggestion! You’re brilliant. 🙂
I just saw this episode and loved what you did! Can you tell me what laminate flooring was used? I loves it and am thinking about redoing our floor. I’ve heard that if you don’t choose the right underlay, this type of floor can sound hollow. Thank you!
We used a vinyl plank (wood look) floor. It was purchased at Floor & Decor. If you have one near you they have a great selection at great prices. They also sell online. I don’t remember the specific name of the one we chose, but it was a dark wood, similar to this one: http://www.flooranddecoroutlets.com/s66101145.html. The planks fit together and were placed directly on the concrete floor and they sounded great and were so easy to clean.
Love it an amazing show!! Please give me prices for the black and white chevron curtain (if they come in navy) 84-96 in. and definately want price on the green shower curtain.
Can you give any information on the backsplash tile? Thanks in advance!~
Laura
Hi! I just saw this episode in reruns and was wondering if you also designed the closet remodel. I’m in the process of looking for a closet system and really liked this one. Can you tell me who the manufacturer is? Thank you!
The system was from the Container store. They did the layout/design. It was very useful!
[…] You might remember a couple of years ago I did some interior design work for the HGTV show “Property Brothers: Buying & Selling” when they were filming in Austin. I did a blog post on the project here. […]
