    Home Tour: Farmhouse Modern- Office
February 24, 2017 in Before & After, Interiors Tour | no comments

Just inside the entry way of this new house is an office space.  Both husband and wife work, and sometimes from home.  They needed an office which they could both use at the same time.  But, the challenge was that it was a fairly small room.

If we were able to find a desk large enough to fit two people (i.e. a ‘partners’ desk), they were usually too big for the room and really restricted what else could fit in the space.  In addition to the desk and two desk chairs,  we also needed storage for paperwork, a printer, and binders.  The homeowners also wanted a sitting chair so one person could sit and chat to the other while they were ‘working’.

After a lot of looking, we decided the best solution was going to be custom.

Raquel designed a great built-in that included placing a ‘desk’ in a way that both husband and wife could use it at the same time.

This left plenty of room for storage along the back wall, providing a pretty solution for hiding the printer, file folders, and other paperwork.

We added a black and white wallpaper to the back of the shelves for a little pop of fun.  The black ties in nicely with the frames for the gallery wall the homeowners wanted for family pictures.

And, we managed to have enough room left for a little leather side chair and accent table.
Bamboo shades and linen drapery panels with an embroidery detail give privacy since this room is at the front of the house.

Sometimes your room size can be the biggest obstacle to how you want the room to function.  Do not be afraid to consider a custom solution if you can not find ready-made pieces that fit the bill.  When you can design something that functions exactly the way you want it to, it will bring a sense of calm and order to the space and make it a room you look forward to spending time in!
